Sofie Skjeflo

Sofie Waage Skjeflo is an empirical environmental economist focusing on climate policies that are both efficient and politically feasible. She also works on climate adaptation, including interventions in developing countries. Her research uses field, survey, and lab experiments, as well as register data and quasi-experimental methods. She holds a PhD in Economics (2015) and an MSc in Development and Environmental Economics from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and a BSc in Economics from the University of Oslo. Sofie was a Visiting Student Researcher at UC Berkeley in 2011 and a visiting researcher at Duke University in 2025/2026. After her doctorate, she worked at the research–consultancy interface at Vista Analysis and Menon Economics, primarily for government agencies, and later served as a senior adviser in the Climate Department of the Norwegian Environment Agency and as head of the secretariat for the government-appointed commission on estimating the emission effects of climate measures. Sofie currently leads the research project Ennovate, on the effectiveness of household energy subsidy programs.
